The women's 1000m was on the schedule at the Beijing Olympic Oval today. Among the favourites to win were Japan's Miho Takagi, American Brittany Bowe and the Netherlands' Jutta Leerdam.

The podium finish that many experts predicted finally happened as Miho Takagi won her seventh career Olympic medal. Her Olympic record time of 1:13.190 put her ahead of Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands and Brittany Bowe of the United States, who clocked 1:13.830 and 1:14.610 respectively.

The men's 1000m race will be held tomorrow in Beijing.
