Short track speed skaters from the Netherlands, Belgium and France were in Heerenveen to compete on 500m, 1000m, 1500m and in relay races last weekend.
Itzhak de Laat wins the men's competition
Itzhak de Laat came out as the winner of the men's competition by finishing second on 1500m and 1000m and fourth on 500m. Sjinkie Knegt, who won the 1000m on Sunday, finished second overall. His 1000m victory wasn’t enough to claim the overall victory considering his 10th place on 1500m. Jens van 't Wout completed the men's final podium with a solid 500m victory.
Schulting wins the women's competition in a convincing way
The 23-year-old world champion from the Netherlands Suzanne Schulting won every distances over the weekend except the 500m where she was penalized in the A final. Her teammates on the national team Xandra Velzeboer and Selma Poutsma completed the overall podium.
Following their great performances at the Invitation Cup, de Laat and Schulting both secured a spot on the Dutch team for the 2021 European Championships.
