Rijhnen and Tas 2019 Berlin marathon winners

The best inline skaters in the world on the marathon distance were in Berlin yesterday to race the 2019 Berlin marathon.

Rain added a challenge to this 2019 edition of the Berlin inline skating marathon. As always, the 42k race was the last chance to gain points for the World Inline Cup ranking and skaters from all around the World were there to compete.

Beddiaf animated the race, Rijhnen won it

No one managed to escape the pack due to the tough weather conditions. Reigning world champion Nolan Beddiaf tried everything to grab the title and led more than half of the race establishing a fast pace. With the Frenchman’s pace, the massive peloton shrinked to a 10 men group. The victory was played in the sprint and it was Germany's great Félix Rijhnen who won it. Beddiaf took second place and Elton de Souza third. After six consecutive years of victories from Bart Swings, it was his Powerslide teammate and friend Felix Rijhnen who dethroned him. Swings, who was coming back from an ice speed skating training camp was still amongst the best skaters in Berlin finishing in the leader's group.

Tas women’s winner

Belgian Sandrine Tas, who once again had a solid season, ended it with the win in Berlin. Just like the men’s race, the women’s marathon winner was also decided with a sprint to the line. Tas was the most explosive skater and crossed the line first finishing just ahead of her Powerslide teammate Germany's Katharina Rumpus and Taiwanese skater Yi-Hsuan Liu.

Rijhnen et Tas gagnants du Marathon de Berlin 2019

Les meilleurs patineurs de marathon au monde ont pris part au marathon roller de Berlin hier.

La pluie est venue ajouter un défi supplémentaire aux patineurs présents lors de ce marathon de Berlin 2019. Comme à l’habitude, cette course de 42km faisait office de finale de la Coupe du monde des marathons et représentait la dernière chance d’amasser des points pour le classement cumulatif.

Beddiaf anime la course, mais Rijhnen l’emporte

Personne n’a réussi à s’échapper du peloton de façon convaincante dû aux conditions météorologiques difficiles. Le champion du monde en titre du marathon Nolan Beddiaf a tout essayé pour remporter le marathon. Le Français a mené le peloton à un rythme d’enfer pour plus de la moitié de la course faisant s’effriter le peloton massif jusqu'à ce qu'il ne reste qu'un groupe sélect d’une dizaine de patineurs à l'avant. La victoire s’est jouée au sprint et c’est le grand Allemand Félix Rijhnen qui l’a emporté juste devant Beddiaf et Elton de Souza. Après six ans de victoires signées Bart Swings, c’est son coéquipier de Powerslide Rijhnen qui l’a détrôné comme roi de Berlin. Swings, qui revenait d’un camp d’entraînement sur glace, était tout de même dans le coup lors du marathon et a terminé dans le même groupe que les gagnants. 

Tas gagnante féminine

La Belge Sandrine Tas, qui a encore une fois eu une belle saison, l’a terminé avec une victoire au convoité marathon de Berlin. À l’image de la course des hommes, la victoire au marathon féminin a aussi été disputée au sprint. Tas a été la plus explosive et a devancé de peu sa coéquipière Allemande dans l’équipe Powerslide Katharina Rumpus et la Taïwanaise Yi-Hsuan Liu.

Best senior performances at the European inline championships

The best inline speed skaters in Europe battled it out at the 2019 European championships last week in Pamplona, Spain.

Here are some performances that captured our attention in the senior category during this week of racing. 

Italia, Italia, Italia

As expected, team Italy was strong during these championships gathering eight European titles in the senior category. Speed skating's queen Francesca Lollobrigida won two titles (track points race, road points race) while Giuseppe Bramante also got two in the men’s category winning the 1000m and the track elimination race. Daniel Niero, Duccio Marsili, Linda Rossi and the men’s relay team also all got an European title. Adding to the titles, many silver and bronze medals were awarded to Italian skaters. 

Strong week from Spanish skaters

Another country that stood out of the crowd was team Spain. Led by Ioseba Fernandez who won the 200m TT, the 100m and the one lap sprint and long distance skater Patxi Peula who took the road points race title, Spain showed their home crowd what they’re made of. The power duo of Fernandez and Peula also defended its European title in the 500m team sprint. In the ladies’ category, Maialen Onate won the title in the marathon event. We also saw great things from other Spanish skaters, notably from Jonathan Galar in the sprint distances. 

Great moments for Belgium 

Even though Bart Swings was absent, team Belgium still won a good share of titles and medals. Sandrine Tas got five individual titles and participated in Belgium’s victory in the ladies’ relay and 500m team sprint. Stien Vanhoutte participated in the team events victory and won the 100m title while her teammate Anke Vos also got some medals.

Pedronno and Ferrié, victorious for France

The championships started with young French skater Mathilde Pedronno’s victory in the 200m TT with a fast time of 18.468. At last year’s European championships, Martin Ferrié had won the elimination race but got disqualified at the end and lost the title. This year was the one for him as he skated to victory in the same exact distance with the help of teammates Doucelin Pedicone and Quentin Giraudeau. Other french skaters stepped on podiums like Valentin Thiebault, Darren de Souza and Juliette Pouydebat.

Other countries’ mentions

German Felix Rijhnen only skated the road races and won the final sprint of the marathon to get the last title up for grab in these championships. Honourable mention to Portuguese skater Diogo Marreiros who didn’t manage to get a title but accumulated a lot of silver and bronze medal during the week.

Les meilleures performances seniors des Championnats d'Europe de roller 2019

Les meilleurs patineurs de vitesse sur roues d’Europe ont croisé le fer lors des Championnats d’Europe de roller 2019, tenus la semaine dernière en Espagne.

Voici certaines des performances ayant retenues notre attention dans la catégorie senior durant ces championnats. 

Italie, Italie, Italie

Comme plusieurs s’y attendait, l’équipe italienne a été solide durant ces championnats ramenant huit titres de champions d’Europe dans la catégorie senior. La reine du patinage Francesca Lollobrigida a remporté deux titres (course à points piste, course à points route) alors que Giuseppe Bramante a également pris deux titres chez les hommes avec ses grandes victoires sur 1000m et à la course à élimination sur piste. Daniel Niero, Duccio Marsili, Linda Rossi et l’équipe masculine de relais ont également raflé un titre. S’ajoutent à tous ces titres plusieurs médailles d’argent et de bronze par l’équipe italienne.

Belle semaine pour les patineurs espagnols

Un autre pays qui s’est démarqué durant la semaine est l’Espagne. Mené par Ioseba Fernandez, qui a remporté le 200m contre-la-montre, le 100m et le sprint d’un tour et par Patxi Peula qui a pris le titre de la course à points sur route, l’équipe espagnole a montré à la foule locale de quoi elle était capable. Le puissant duo de Fernandez et Peula a également défendu son titre au sprint par équipe de 500m. Chez les femmes, Maialen Onate s’est imposée de belle façon au marathon en prenant le titre. Nous avons également vu de belles choses d’autres patineurs espagnols, notamment du sprinteur Jonathan Galar.

De bons moments pour les Belges

Malgré l’absence de Bart Swings, les Belges sont tout de même montés sur plusieurs podiums durant la semaine. Sandrine Tas a pris cinq titres individuels en plus de participer aux victoires des Belges au sprint par équipe et au relais féminin. Stien Vanhoutte a pris part aux épreuves par équipe et a été sacrée championne d’Europe du 100m. Leur coéquipière Anke Vos a également eu de bons championnats en amassant quelques médailles.

Pedronno et Ferrié, victorieux pour la France

Les championnats ont débuté avec la victoire de la jeune française Mathilde Pedronno au 200m contre-la-montre. Un autre beau moment pour les Bleus fut la victoire de Martin Ferrié à la course à élimination sur route. Sur la même distance l’année dernière, Ferrié avait franchi la ligne en premier avant d’apprendre qu’il était disqualifié et qu’il perdait son titre. Cette année a été la bonne alors que ses coéquipiers Doucelin Pedicone et Quentin Giraudeau l’ont mené vers une grande victoire à Pampelune. D’autres Français ont eu des médailles durant cette compétition dont Valentin Thiebault, Darren de Souza et Juliette Pouydebat. 

Mentions d’autres pays

L’Allemand Felix Rijhnen ne prenait part qu’aux courses sur route, mais s’est assuré de laisser sa marque sur ces championnats. Il est reparti avec le titre du marathon en remportant le sprint final de façon explosive. Le Portugais Diogo Marreiros mérite une mention spéciale. Il n’a remporté aucun titre mais est monté sur plusieurs podiums et faisait toujours partie de la bataille.

Les favoris locaux Tas et Médard l’emportent au Grand Prix des Flandres

Les favoris de la foule belge Sandrine Tas et Indra Médard ont remporté le Grand Prix des Flandres 2019, la dernière Coupe d’Europe de la saison.

Certains des meilleurs patineurs sur roues d’Europe étaient à Ostende en Belgique pour la dernière Coupe d’Europe de la saison, l’événement classique du Grand Prix des Flandres. Une course à élimination, une course à points, une course en ligne, un 1000m et une course sur circuit routier étaient au programme lors du weekend. 

Tas et Médard champions au cumulatif

Les Belges Sandrine Tas et Indra Médard auraient difficilement pu demander mieux pour clore la saison des Coupe d’Europe que de remporter le classement cumulatif du Grand Prix des Flandres, tenu sur la piste de leur club d’origine. Tas a remporté quatre des cinq distances au programme pour ajouter une autre victoire en Coupe d’Europe à sa collection. L’Espagnole Maite Ancin Gambarte et l’Allemande Josie Hofmann ont complété le podium féminin. Chez les hommes, Médard a remporté deux distances en plus de prendre le deuxième rang à deux reprises et le quatrième rang une fois. L’Espagnol Patxi Peula et le Néerlandais Marc Middelkoop ont aussi eu un bon weekend et ont respectivement pris le deuxième et troisième rang du classement. 

Marreiros, Bravo et de Souza montrent de belles choses

Les Portugais Diogo Marreiros et Miguel Bravo ainsi que le Français Elton de Souza ont tous trois participé au spectacle même s’ils ne figurent pas au classement général ayant tous manqué au moins une distance. Marreiros n’a pris part qu’à la course à points et à la course à élimination mais à remporter les deux alors que son coéquipier a terminé troisième dans ces deux mêmes épreuves. De son côté, de Souza a pris le deuxième rang du 1000m et le quatrième rang de la course à élimination.

Mathilde Pedronno, seule patineuse à battre Tas

La jeune Française Mathilde Pedronno a été la seule patineuse à battre la grande championne Sandrine Tas lors d’une distance. Elle s’est imposée de belle façon au 1000m, mais n’est pas inclue dans le classement général puisqu’elle a manqué deux courses.

Suttles et Balanant champions juniors

La sensation belge Jason Suttels a encore établi sa domination chez les juniors en remportant toutes les courses du weekend et s’assurant par le fait même de la victoire au cumulatif. Chez les femmes au niveau junior, l’étoile montante française Marine Balanant a remporté le classement en gagnant quatre des cinq courses.

Crowd favorites Tas and Médard won the Flanders Grand Prix

Belgian crowd favorites won the Flanders Grand Prix, the last European inline cup event of 2019.

Some of the best inline skaters in Europe were In Ostend, Belgium for the last European cup of the 2019 season. An elimination race, a points race, a short in line race, a 1000m and a road race were on the program of the 2019 Flanders Grand Prix.

Tas and Médard overall winners

Sandrine Tas and Indra Médard couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the European cup season than winning the overall classification of their home competition in Ostend. Sandrine Tas won four of the five races of the weekend to claim another European cup win. Maite Ancin Gambarte from Spain and Josie Hofmann from Germany completed the ladies' overall podium. Médard won two races and added two second places and a fourth place to confirm his win in the senior men’s category. Spanish Patxi Peula and Dutch Marc Middelkoop also had a good weekend and completed the men’s podium.

Strong showing by Marreiros, Bravo and de Souza

Portuguese skaters Diogo Marreiros and Miguel Bravo as well as French skater Elton de Souza showed great things during the weekend but missed at least one distance which made them ineligible for the overall classification victory. Diogo Marreiros only skated the points race and the elimination race but won both of them. His teammate in the Portuguese and Bont Skates team Miguel Bravo finished third in these two distances while Elton de Souza managed to collect a second place in the 1000m and a fourth place in the elimination race.

Mathilde Pedronno the only skater to beat Tas

Young French skater Mathilde Pedronno was the only skater who managed to beat Sandrine Tas in a distance. The sprinter made it on 1000m, but wasn’t included in the overall classification since she didn’t skate two of the longer distances.

Suttels and Balanant junior champions

Belgian sensation Jason Suttels once again showed his dominance in the junior category winning all five races of the 2019 Flanders Grand Prix and securing the overall win. French rising star Marine Balanant was the winner in the ladies’ junior category winning four of the five races of the weekend.

Guzman still the best sprinter, another win for Tas, Bont train dominates in Heerde

Some of the best skaters in the world competed at the 5th European cup of the season held in Heerde.

A 300m Time-Trial, a points race, a 500m and an elimination race were skated last weekend in the Netherlands. Being held at the same time as the French and Colombian championships, some big names were absent but still a strong pack of skaters were present both in the men’s and women’s categories.

Guzman Bitar perfect in the sprint

Venezulian Jhoan Guzman Bitar won both the 300m TT and the 500m in Heerde last weekend. He’s had a great European cup season winning distances every weekend and consolidating his strong reputation in the world of inline speed skating. German Simon Albrecht and Etienne Ramali, Chilean brothers Emanuelle and Luca Silva and Belgian Mathias Voste were his closest rivals during the weekend.

Bont train dominated the longer distances

A massive Bont Skates train controlled the long distances events of the weekend leading Portuguese Diogo Marreiros to victory on both races. Daniel Niero collected a 2nd place in the points race and a 4th place in the elimination race. Stefan and Philip, the Due Schmidt brothers from Denmark representing Bont Nordic, were also in great shape finishing in the top ten of both long distances and placing Stefan 2nd in the elimination race. Peter Michael who finished 3rd in the elimination race, Patxi Peula Cabello and Harry Stogdale who had a good points race and Santiago Roumec were the main non-Bont skaters who stood out last weekend.

Tas was challenged but still took the overall win

Belgian Sandrine Tas, who’s been dominant since the beginning of the season, won this weekend’s overall ranking with two wins, a 2nd and a 3rd place.  Italian Francesca Lollobrigida was strong on the longer distances finishing 1st in the elimination race and 2nd in the points race at her first major competition of the season. Colombian Aura Quintana, who’s been getting good results at every European cup this season, had another consistent weekend in Heerde while German Josie Hofmann got a 3rd a 4th and a 5th place. Long track speed skating world champion Vanessa Herzog from Austria won the 300m TT but didn’t skate the other distances.
