L'avènement de Sven Roes et le titre pour Suzanne Schulting à Leeuwarden.

Ce week-end se déroulait aux Pays-Bas sur la glace de Leeuwarden, les championnats nationaux néerlandais.

Au terme de ces deux jours de compétition, Suzanne Schulting s'impose chez les femmes après avoir remporté toutes les distances principales: 1500m, 500m et 1000m. Une chute sur la super-finale l’empêchera cependant de faire carton plein. Rianne de Vries (2ème sur 1500m, 3ème sur 500, 2ème sur 1000m et 4ème à la super-finale 3000m) et Lara van Ruijven (3ème sur 1500m, 5ème sur 500m, 3ème sur 1000m et 2ème à la super-finale 3000m) complètent le podium en prenant respectivement la 2ème et la 3ème place. 

En revanche chez les hommes la bataille fut plus serrée, quoique remporté par Sven Roes, le titre s'est joué jusque dans la super-finale. Le nouveau champion néerlandais a commencé sa journée en remportant le 1500m, avant de terminer 7ème du 500m puis 2ème du 1000m et enfin 2ème de la super-finale. Daan Breeuwsma (2ème du 1500m, 10ème du 500m, vainqueur du 1000m et 4ème à la super-finale 3000m) et Dylan Hoogerwerf (5ème sur le 1500m, vainqueur du 500m, 6ème du 1000m et 3ème de la super-finale 3000m) complètent les places d'honneur en finissant respectivement 2ème et 3ème.

The Dutch national short track championships were held last weekend at the Leeuwarden ice rink.

At the end of these two days of competition, Suzanne Schulting won the ladies category finishing first in the three main distances: 1500m, 500m and 1000m. A crash during the 3000m super final prevented her from having a perfect weekend. Rianne de Vries (2nd on 1500m, 3rd on 500m, 2nd on 1000m and 4th in the super final 3000m) and Lara van Ruijven (3rd on 1500m, 5th on 500m, 3rd on 1000m and 2nd in the super final 3000m) completed the overall podium respectively finishing 2nd and 3rd.

However, the battle for the title in the men’s category was very tight until the end of the super final. The new Dutch champion Sven Roes won the 1500m, took the silver medal on 1000m, the 2nd place of the super final and the 7th place of the 500m. Daan Breeuwsma finished second of the overall classification. He won the 1000m, finished 2nd on 1500m, 10th on 500m and  4th in the super final 3000m. Dylan Hoogerwerf completed the podium by finishing 3rd overall. Winning gold on 500m, Hoogerwerf finished 5th of the 1500m, 6th of the 1000m and 3rd of the super final.

Hong and Santos 2020 American short track champions

Kristen Santos and Thomas Hong won the 2020 American short track championships which were held in Salt Lake City, Utah last weekend.

The stakes were high as the best short track speed skaters in the United States had the chance to qualify for the upcoming World Cups and World Championships.

Big weekend for Thomas Hong

Thomas Insuk Hong was crowned American short track champion as he won the 500m and 1000m distances and got silver on 1500m. Ryan Pivirotto, the 1500m winner, finished second overall while Andrew Heo finished third. Brandon Kim and Aaron Tran took the fourth and fifth places.

Santos, Biney and Stoddard on the ladie’s podium

Maame Biney won both the 1500m and 500m on day 1 giving herself a good lead in the overall ranking for the last day. She was penalised on 1000m the next day which allowed Kristen Santos to win the 1000m final and the overall title. Santos had a great weekend finishing just behind Biney in the first two distances and winning the 1000m final. Corinne Stoddard and Hailey Choi respectively grabbed the third and fourth overall spots.

Hong et Santos champions américains courte piste 2020

Kristen Santos et Thomas Hong ont remporté le championnat américain courte piste 2020 qui se tenait la fin de semaine dernière à Salt Lake City.

Les enjeux étaient élevés alors que des places pour les prochaines Coupes du monde et pour les championnats du monde étaient disputés.

Belle fin de semaine pour Thomas Hong 

Thomas Insuk Hong a été couronné champion américain courte piste en remportant le 500m et le 1000m et en prenant le deuxième rang sur 1500m. Ryan Pivirotto, le gagnant du 1500m, a pris le deuxième rang cumulatif derrière Hong alors qu’Andrew Heo a terminé troisième. Brandon Kim et Aaron Tran ont respectivement conclu la compétition au quatrième et cinquième rang.

Maame Biney s’est donné une sérieuse option pour le titre de championne américaine au cumulatif en remportant le 1500m et le 500m au premier jour des championnats. Elle a finalement été pénalisée sur 1000m, ce qui a permis à Kristen Santos de s’emparer du titre de championne au cumulatif. Santos a eu un beau weekend en terminant deuxième derrière Biney lors des deux premières distances et en remportant le 1000m. Corinne Stoddard et Hailey Choi ont respectivement terminé au troisième et quatrième rang.
