The Eugène-Lalonde arena hosted the first Canada Cup of the 2019-2020 short track season. The competition included 60 men’s skaters and 59 women’s skaters. The majority of the athletes were junior aged skaters trying to qualify for the Canadian Junior Championships but some senior skaters also took part in this high level competition.

Justin Bergeron men’s champion
Justin Bergeron from Quebec won the men’s overall ranking of this first Canada Cup. He started his competition with a third place on 1500m before collecting back to back wins on 500m and 1000m to confirm his overall classification victory. Félix Roussel and William Sohier also both from Quebec took the second and third place. In fourth was another skater from the province of Quebec, Philippe Daudelin who won the 1500m.

Three in three for Florence Brunelle
Florence Brunelle was the ladies’ winner as she won all three distances of the weekend. The Trois-Rivières skater training in Montréal, who was injured for most of last season, started the 2019-2020 season the right way and will be someone to look for in the upcoming competitions. Hee Won Son finished second while Léa Tessier and Catherine Lamarche finished the weekend third and fourth.

The 2019 Canadian Junior Championships, which will include the junior skaters who competed at World cup trials and the best skaters of this Canada Cup, will be held at the Calgary Olympic Oval from November the 29th to December 1st.
