If it was not a huge surprise to learn today that 29-year-old Kasandra Bradette was retiring from the sport, short track speed skating fans all over the globe sure weren't ready to see one of the fastest men on earth announce his retirement. Samuel Girard, soon to be 23, was one of the fan favorite.

Samuel Girard won two medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games (5000m relay bronze, 1000m gold) and has been one of the most dominant skaters of the World Cup circuit in the last few years. Her partner Kasandra Bradette was part of the women's 3000m relay team which finished eighth at the Olympics in 2018. She also won three world championships medals in her career.
