Two months ago we told you that the entire Korean team had been locked out of their national training facilities while the KSU was investigating an incident about a male skater who had supposedly pulled down the pants of one of his teammates in front of the female skaters. It has now been announced that Olympic champion and reigning short track world champion Lim Hyo-jun is suspended for one year by the KSU because of this event. He can not join any skating related activities with the national team and won’t be able to compete on the World cup circuit nor at World Championships during the 2019-2020 season.
Off-ice incidents have tarnished the aura of the Korean short track team this year. Last season, Kim Gun-woo and Kim Ye-jin didn’t compete at the 2019 World Championships because of a suspension they received. Also, former national coach Cho Jae-beom will have to stand in court for charges of sexual abuse on skater Shim Suk-hee.
