Schulting et Liu font bonne impression à Shanghai

Ces derniers jours le Shanghai Trophy 2019 a accueilli des patineurs courte piste de partout à travers le monde en préparation pour la saison courte piste 2019-2020.

Des patineurs en provenance de la Chine, des Pays-Bas, de la Hongrie, du Kazakhstan, de la Russie, du Canada de la Corée et d'Israël ont pris part au Shanghai Trophy 2019 dans le but de se préparer à la saison internationale qui approche en courte piste.

Schulting continue là où elle a laissé

La championne du monde au cumulatif en 2019 et championne olympique en 2018 Suzanne Schulting a bien débuté sa saison en remportant le 1000m à Shanghai. La Hongroise Petra Jaszapati et la Chinoise Chutong Zhang ont pris le deuxième et troisième rang. La vedette hongroise Liu Shaolin Sandor a quant à lui remporté le 1000m masculin juste devant le Chinois Tianyi Zhang et le Coréen Seo Beom Suk. 

Les Pays-Bas, la Hongrie et la Chine au sommet des relais

Un relais féminin de 3000m, un masculin de 5000m et un mixte de 2000m étaient au programme de la compétition. Les équipes néerlandaises, chinoises et hongroises ont toutes terminé sur les différents podiums des trois relais et ont chacune pris les grands honneurs dans l’une des épreuves. Les Néerlandaises ont gagné le relais féminin, les Hongrois le relais masculin et la Chine le relais mixte. 

Les Canadiens au Shanghai Trophy

Quelques patineurs canadiens étaient au rendez-vous lors de cette compétition. Les meilleurs performances canadiennes ont été les 8e positions d’Alex Lepage-Farrell et de Sébastien Gagnon sur 1000m, atteignant tous deux la finale B dans leur catégorie. Genève Bélanger, dont nous vous avions présenté l’histoire cet été, a quant à elle pris le 9e rang sur 1000m. En plus de ces trois patineurs ayant atteint un top 10, Patinage de vitesse Canada a également envoyé Léa Chamberland-Dostie, Camille de Serres-Rainville, Renee Steenge, Antoine Gagnon-Lamarche, Alexis Marceau, Brendan Corey, Ethan McKinley-Young et Francis Dumouchel qui ont pu profiter de l’occasion pour gagner de l’expérience internationale.

Schulting and Liu made good impression in Shanghai

The 2019 Shanghai Trophy welcomed high level skaters from all around the world in the last few days as they prepare for the 2019-2020 season.

Skaters from China, Hungary, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Russia, Canada, Korea and Israel took part in the 2019 Shanghai Trophy as part of their preparation for the upcoming short track season.

Schulting continued where she left off

The 2019 overall World champion and Pyeongchang 2018 1000m gold medalist Suzanne Schulting from the Netherlands started her international season the right way winning the 1000m event in Shanghai. Hungarian Petra Jaszapati and Chinese Chutong Zhang took the second and third place on the distance. Hungarian star Liu Shaolin Sandor won the men’s 1000m just ahead of Chinese Tianyi Zhang and Korean Seo Beom Suk. 

The Netherlands, Hungary and China at the top in the relays

A ladies 3000m relay, a men 5000m relay and a mixed relay were raced in Shanghai. The Dutch, Hungarian and Chinese teams all finished on the podium of every relay and each won one. The Netherlands won the ladies’ relay, Hungary the men’s relay and China the mixed relay. 

Canada at the Shanghai Trophy 

Some Canadian were also competing in Shanghai during the weekend. The best Canadian performances went to Alex Lepage-Farrell and Sébastien Gagnon who both finished 8th on 1000m skating the B final. Genève Bélanger, of whom we shared the comeback story earlier this summer, collected a solid 9th position on 1000m. Adding to these three skaters who reached the top 10, Speed Skating Canada sent Léa Chamberland-Dostie, Camille de Serres-Rainville, Renee Steenge, Antoine Gagnon-Lamarche, Alexis Marceau, Brendan Corey, Ethan McKinley-Young and Francis Dumouchel to gain some more international experience.

Résumé de saison courte piste 2018-2019 : Hongrie

Après une première moitié de saison fructueuse, les Hongrois ont perdu de la vitesse à la suite d'une blessure à un des membres importants de leur équipe.

Voici notre résumé de la saison remplie de hauts et de bas de l’équipe hongroise.

Plus difficile pour les frères Liu

Les frères Shaolin Liu et Shaoang Liu ont débuté la saison en force en remportant un total de cinq médailles individuelles, deux médailles d’or au relais masculin avec Csaba Burjan, Cole Krueger et Alex Varnyu, en plus d’une médaille d’or au relais mixte avec Sara Luca Bacskai et Petra Jaszapati. La deuxième partie de la saison a bien débuté avec les Championnats Européens. Shaolin Liu est monté sur la première marche du podium au 1500m, ainsi que la deuxième marche au 500m et au 1000m. Shaoang Liu a gagné l’or au 500m et l’argent au 1500m. Les deux frères ont remporté les honneurs du classement général avec Shaolin qui s’est classé premier et Shaoang au deuxième rang. La saison s’est gâtée à la quatrième Coupe du monde à Dresde en Allemagne lors de la première course de la fin de semaine de Shaoang Liu. Le patineur a fait une mauvaise chute se blessant à la main. Sa saison s’est terminée à ce moment. Shaolin Liu a remporté la médaille d’argent au 500m à la cinquième Coupe du monde à Turin en Italie. Son classement général en Coupe du monde sur la distance fut la cinquième place. Après avoir terminé en deuxième place aux Championnats du monde de 2018, les attentes étaient élevées pour le patineur. Il a obtenu une pénalité sur chacune des distances individuelles. Il a terminé vingtième au 1500m, dixième au 1000m et quatrième au 500m. Au classement général, il s’est hissé au dixième rang. De son côté, lors des Championnats du monde, Csaba Burjan a amélioré son classement par rapport à 2018 sur 1000m et 1500m. Respectivement, il s’était classé vingt-cinquième et vingt-sixième l’année dernière. Cette année, il a terminé vingtième et treizième.

Petra Jaszapati, une année de croissance

Petra Jaszapati a remporté sa première médaille en Coupe du monde lors de la première partie de la saison, soit une médaille d’or au 500m à la troisième Coupe du monde à Almaty, au Kazakhstan. Aux Championnats Européens, elle a fait la finale B sur chacune des distances où elle a terminé première de ces finales sur 1500m et 1000m et deuxième au 500m. Elle a terminé neuvième au classement général, ce qui est une amélioration par rapport à sa treizième place en 2018. Pour ce qui est des deux dernières Coupes du monde de la saison, elle a terminé septième au 1500m à Dresde et a fini deuxième de la finale B au 500m à Turin. Au classement général en Coupe du monde, elle s’est hissée au cinquième rang sur 500m, ce qui est une amélioration de six places depuis l’année dernière. Au 1500m, elle s’est classée vingtième. Aux Championnats du monde à Sofia, en Bulgarie, sa meilleure distance a été le 1000m avec une quatorzième place. En 2018, elle avait terminé vingt-et-unième au classement général. Elle s’est améliorée en grimpant au dix-huitième rang la saison dernière.

Une bonne année pour les relais

L’équipe féminine au relais a remporté sa première et unique médaille de la saison, soit le bronze, aux Championnats Européens. Lors de cette compétition, le relais masculin a terminé sur la première marche du podium. À Dresde, les hommes ont gagné la médaille d’argent, ce qui les a aidé à terminer premier rang au classement général en Coupe du monde. Aux Championnats du monde, ils ont réussi à remporter la médaille de bronze, terminant tout juste derrière les Coréens et les Chinois. Après une première année pour le relais mixte, les Hongrois ont su faire leur place sur la distance remportant l’argent à Dresde et terminant quatrième au classement général.

2018-2019 short track season recap : Hungary

After a successful first half of the season, the Hungarian team lost speed due to an injury to one of their most successful skaters.

Here is our summary of a season filled with highs and lows for the Hungarian team.

Difficulties for the Liu brothers

Brothers Shaolin and Shaoang Liu kicked off the season with a total of five individual medals, two men's relay gold with Csaba Burjan, Cole Krueger and Alex Varnyu, in addition to a gold medal in the mixed relay with Sara Luca Bacskai and Petra Jaszapati. The second part of the season started well with the European Championships. Shaolin Liu climbed on the first step of the podium in the 1500m, as well as the second step in the 500m and the 1000m. Shaoang Liu won gold in the 500m and silver in the 1500m. The two brothers won the overall ranking with Shaolin placing first and Shaoang second. Things started falling apart at the fourth World Cup in Dresden, Germany. In his first race of the weekend, Shaoang Liu suffered a bad fall injuring his hand. His season ended there. Shaolin Liu won the silver medal in the 500m at the fifth World Cup in Turin, Italy. His overall ranking on the distance in the World Cup was fifth. After finishing second at the 2018 World Championships, expectations were high for the skater. He got a penalty on each of the individual distances. He finished twentieth in the 1500m, tenth in the 1000m and fourth in the 500m. In the overall standings, he climbed to tenth place. As for Csaba Burjan, he improved his World championships' rankings compared to 2018 in both the 1000m and 1500m. Going from twenty-fifth to twentieth on 1000m and twenty-sixth to thirteenth on 1500m.

Petra Jaszapati, a year of growth

Petra Jaszapati won her first World Cup medal in the first half of the season, a gold medal in the 500m at the third World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan. At the European Championships, she made the B final on each of the distances. She finished ninth in the overall ranking, an improvement over her thirteenth place in 2018. For the last two World Cups of the season, she finished seventh in the 1500m in Dresden and second of the B final on 500m in Turin. In the overall World Cup ranking, she finished fifth in the 500m, an improvement of six spots compared to the previous season. In the 1500m, she placed twentieth. At the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, her best distance was the 1000m with a fourteenth place finish. In 2018, she finished twenty-first overall. Last season, she improved by climbing to eighteenth overall.

A good year for relays

The women's relay team won its first and only bronze medal of the season at the European Championships. During this competition, the men's relay finished on the first step of the podium. In Dresden, the men won the silver medal, which helped them finish first overall in the World Cup ranking. At the World Championships, they managed to win the bronze medal, finishing just behind the Korean and Chinese teams. The Hungarians were able to offer great results on the first year of the mix relay event. They won silver in Dresden to finish fourth overall.

Entre le 2 novembre et le 9 décembre 2018, les meilleurs patineurs au monde se sont affrontés lors des trois premières Coupes du monde de la saison 2018-2019.

Certains pays ont vu leurs athlètes se démarquer lors des distances du 500m, 1000m, 1500m ainsi qu’aux relais. Un de ces pays est la Hongrie. Shaolin Sandor Liu et Shaoang Liu ont continué leur ascension, alors que Petra Jaszapati est sortie du lot chez les femmes. De bonnes performances ont également été vues lors du relais masculin et de la nouvelle distance du relais mixte.

Les frères Liu parmi les meilleurs

Après avoir fini la saison 2017-2018 au deuxième rang des Championnats du monde, Shaolin Sandor Liu a récolté la médaille de bronze lors d’une des deux finales du 500m lors de la Coupe du monde #1 à Calgary, au Canada. Il est monté une deuxième fois sur le podium lors d’une distance individuelle à la Coupe du monde #2 à Salt Lake City, aux États-Unis, alors qu’il a remporté la médaille d’or au premier 1000m de la fin de semaine. Son frère, Shaoang Liu, a eu une première partie de la saison d’autant plus fructueuse. Lors de la première Coupe du monde, il est monté sur la deuxième marche du podium au 500m et il a remporté la finale A du 1000m. Après une pénalité lors de la finale A lors du 1000m à Salt Lake City, Shaoang Liu s’est relevé et a remporté le bronze au 500m. À la Coupe du monde #3 à Almaty, au Kazakhstan, il a gagné la médaille d’or au 1000m et il est monté sur la deuxième marche du podium au 500m.

Petra Jaszapati remporte l’or

À la première Coupe du monde à Calgary, Petra Jaszapati s’est qualifiée à la finale B du 500m où elle a terminé première. À Salt Lake City, son parcours au 500m s’est arrêté aux quarts de finale où elle a terminé 5ede sa course. Arrivée à Almaty, elle semblait en pleine forme. Après avoir remporté sa course de demi-finale, elle était la première sur la ligne à la finale A. Dès le début, elle a pris les devants de la course. Vers la fin, les trois autres patineuses ont fait une chute, ce qui lui a permis d’avoir une avance de 7 secondes sur les autres. Jaszapati avait un grand sourire lors de la remise des médailles, où elle tenait sa première médaille d'or individuelle remportée en Coupe du monde.

Record du monde au relais masculin

Dès la première Coupe du monde de la saison, les Hongrois ont démarré en force au relais masculin. En plus de remporter la médaille d’or, Csaba Burjan, Cole Krueger, Shaolin Sandor Liu et Shaoang Liu ont établi un nouveau record du monde de 6:28.625. Ils sont remontés sur la plus haute marche du podium à Salt Lake City, avec Alex Varnyu à la place de Cole Krueger. Lors de cette Coupe du monde, Sara Luca Bacskai, Petra Jaszapati, Shaolin Sandor Liu et Shaoang Liu ont gagné la médaille d’or au relais mixte.

Vous pourrez revoir les patineurs hongrois en Coupe du monde du 1er au 3 février à Dresden en Allemagne et du 8 au 10 février à Turin en Italie, mais ils feront avant un arrêt aux Pays-Bas pour les Championnats Européens qui débuteront le 11 janvier prochain.

Mid-season bulletin in short track: Hungary

Between November 2nd and the 9th of December 2018, the best skaters in the world competed in the first three World Cups of the 2018-19 season. Here is our mid-season bulletin for team Hungary.

Some countries have seen their athletes stand out on 500m, 1000m, 1500m and relays so far. One of these countries is Hungary. Shaolin Sandor Liu and Shaoang Liu continued their ascent, while Petra Jaszapati stood out among the women. Good performances were also seen during the men's relay and the new distance of the mixed relay.

The Liu brothers among the best

After finishing the 2017-2018 season in second place at the World Championships, Shaolin Sandor Liu started the new season by capturing a bronze medal in one of two 500m finals at the World Cup #1 in Calgary, Canada. He climbed on the podium for a second time in an individual distance at the World Cup #2 in Salt Lake City, USA, winning the gold medal in the first 1000m of the weekend. His brother, Shaoang Liu's first part of the season was even more fruitful. At the first World Cup, he climbed on the second step of the podium in the 500m and won the A final of the 1000m. After a penalty in the A final at the 1000m in Salt Lake City, Shaoang Liu got back up and won bronze in the 500m. At the World Cup #3 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, he won the gold medal in the 1000m and went on the second step of the podium in the 500m.

Petra Jaszapati wins a gold medal

At the first World Cup in Calgary, Petra Jaszapati qualified in the B final of the 500m where she finished first. In Salt Lake City, her course to a medal in the 500m stopped in the quarterfinals where she finished 5th in her race. When she arrived in Almaty, she seemed in good shape. After winning her semifinal race, she was first on the line in the A final. From the start, she took the lead in the race. Towards the end, the other three skaters fell, giving her a 7-second lead over the others. Jaszapati had a big smile at the medal ceremony, where she held her first World Cup individual gold medal.

World record in the men's relay

From the first World Cup of the season, the Hungarian men relay started in force. In addition to winning the gold medal, Csaba Burjan, Cole Krueger, Shaolin Sandor Liu and Shaoang Liu set a new world record of 6:28.625. They came back at the top of the podium in Salt Lake City, with Alex Varnyu replacing Cole Krueger. At the same World Cup, Sara Luca Bacskai, Petra Jaszapati, Shaolin Sandor Liu and Shaoang Liu won the gold medal in the mixed relay event.

The next World Cups will be held from February 1st to 3rd in Dresden, Germany and from February 8th to 10th in Torino, Italy but first the Hungarian skaters will be competing at the European Championships starting on January 11th in Dordrecht, Netherlands.

Liu Shaoang and Petra Jaszapati crowned Hungarian champions

Liu Shaoang and Petra Jaszapati were crowned Hungarian champions this weekend in Budapest.

The skaters battled in a 1500m, a 500m, a 1000m and a super 1500m on Saturday and Sunday to decide who would be the new Hungarian champions.

Liu, Liu and Varnyu

It's the young but already successful skater of the World Cup circuit Liu Shaoang who won the overall classification. The 20-year-old skater had a near perfect competition winning 3 of the 4 distances and finishing second in the only distance he didn’t win. The only skater who was able to beat Shaoang on a distance was his older brother Shaolin who won the 500m. Shaolin finished in second place in the overall ranking adding two 2nd place finishes and a 3rd place to his win on 500m. The skater who finished second at last year's World championships in Montréal will obviously be back on the World Cup circuit this season. Alex Varnyu completed the overall classification podium. John-Henry Krueger’s brother Cole Krueger finished in fourth.

Jaszapati in good form

Petra Jaszapati had a great competition gathering wins on 1500m, 500m and the super 1500m events. She also finished second on 1000m. The nineteen-year-old skater will lead the hungarian team again this year. Her closest rival was Sára Luca Bàcskai who took the second place in the overall ranking with a solid win on 1000m. Rebeka Sziliczei took the third position overall. Sziliczei was part of the Junior Hungarian team last season and finished 11th at the 2018 world junior championships. She already took part in a few World Cup events in her career. Based on the results she had last weekend, we should see her compete against the world again this season.

You will be able to see a couple of these skaters at the International Invitation Cup this weekend in Heerenveen.
