The battle for Europe

The European speed skating championships start tomorrow in Kolomna, Russia.

The best speed skaters in Europe are in Russia for one of the most important event of the season: the European championships. Skaters from 20 countries including the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Russia and Italy will fight for the prestigious European champion titles.

With the approach of the Olympic games, a couple of skaters will miss the event. Team Netherlands confirmed that Sven Kramer and Ireen Wüst would not compete this weekend since they qualified for four events at the Olympics. They will stay in the Netherlands to prepare for Pyeongchang. The reigning sprint world champion Kai Verbij will not compete as he’s recovering from an injury that occured at the Dutch Olympic selections.
