KNSB Cup #4: Jasper Brunsmann in control

The fourth leg of the 2018-19 KNSB Cup was competed last weekend in Leeuwarden. Just like they did in the first event of the season in September, the athletes had to battle it out on the 500m distance and Jasper Brunsmann was ready for it.

Close to 120 skaters separated in seven mixed groups were in action Sunday. While groups C to G were filled with Dutch skaters only, Belgium, Australia and Japan were represented in the two main groups.

In group A, Dutch national team member Jasper Brunsmann finished first in the ranking after winning both 500m of the day. In fact, the nineteen-year-old won every races he skated in. His compatriot Melle van’t Wout finished in second place thanks to a third place finish in the first 500m and a second place in the following one. Coming in third place was Japanese Hiroki Yokoyama. The twenty-four-year-old olympian finished second in the first 500m and fourth in the second one. Sumire Kikuchi, sole woman competing in the A group, closed the day in fifteenth place.

In the B group, Ties Kuiper from the Netherlands finished in first position. His felllow Dutch skaters Jari van Polen and Ted Dalrymple followed him in the ranking in second and third place respectively. Many women were competing in the B group. Dutch skater Xandra Velzeboer finished 6th, Belgium’s Hanne Desmet finished 9th and Dutch national team member Avalon Aardoom finished 10th. Three other female Dutch skaters were competing in group B. Emma van Zuijlen closed the day in 12th, Tineke den Dulk finished 16th while  Anne Floor Otter finished at the 19th spot

The fifth event of this season's KNSB Cup will be held in Nijmegen on February 2nd, 2019.
