After two weekends of racing in Japan, the best long track speed skaters in the world have now travelled to Europe for the third and fourth World cup events of the season. World cup # 3 will start this friday in Tomaszów Mazowiecki in the absence of some big names of the sport. The athletes of the professional skating team Jumbo are in Collalbo, Italy for a training camp and won’t take part in this weekend’s competition. Jumbo includes skaters such as Kjeld Nuis, Antoinette de Jong, Patrick Roest and Thomas Krol who had some good moments in the first two World cups. In their absence, we’ll probably see new faces on the podiums this weekend and it should be an interesting competition!

New World cup, new skaters
Olympic medalist for Canada in short track Valérie Maltais will skate in her first long track World cup this weekend in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. Jorrit Bergsma who just became a father will skate his first World cup of the season and he will be one of the skaters to watch for the win in the painfull 10 000m distance. Other skaters like Alex Boisvert-Lacroix, Gilmore Junio and Ronald Mulder will also skate in their first World cup of the season.
