Martina Sablikova and Patrick Roest were crowned allround world champions today at the Olympic oval in Calgary.

The 1500m, the ladies’ 5000m and the men’s 10000m were on the program of the second day of racing in Calgary and two allround world champions were crowned at the end of the day.
Title no.5 for Martina Sablikova
Martina Sablikova is the 2019 allround world champion. On day two, she finished fourth on 1500m and won the 5000m to confirm her first place in the overall ranking. On 5000m, she established a second world record this weekend completing the distance in 6:42.51. Last year’s allround champion Miho Takagi finished in second place in the overall ranking. Takagi has had an amazing 2018-2019 season also finishing second last weekend at the World sprint championships. Rounding off the podium was Dutch skater Antoinette de Jong who collected a fifth and a sixth place on day two. Netherlands’ skaters Carlijn Achteerekte and Ireen Wüst took fourth and fifth place in the overall ranking.
Canadian Isabelle Weidemann had a great weekend and finished in sixth place overall. ''I got a lot more out of it that I tought I would and I am happy that I achieved some personal bests.'' said Weidemann.

Roest keeps his title
Patrick Roest had another awesome day finishing second on 1500m and first on 10000m. It is Roest’s second world allround champion title in career. Norwegian Sverre Lunde Pedersen won the 1500m and finished third on 10000m on day two which put him in overall silver medal position. Veteran Sven Kramer finished third overall collecting a third and a fourth place on the last day of racing. Thirthy-six-year-old Douwe de Vries finished fourth while Canada’s Ted-Jan Bloemen finished fifth.
