Tas et Swings au sommet à Geisingen

Les Belges Sandrine Tas et Bart Swings, tous deux représentant Powerslide, ont remporté le classement général de l’Arena Geisingen International qui s’est déroulé en Allemagne le weekend dernier.

La troisième Coupe d’Europe de la saison 2019 était la toujours populaire compétition de l’Arena Geisingen tenue sur ce que plusieurs considèrent comme la meilleure piste de roller au monde. Plusieurs vedettes du sport comme Elton de Souza, Bart Swings, Daniel Niero, Simon Albrecht, Diogo Marreiros, Sandrine Tas, Mareike Thum et plusieurs autres ont pris part à cette compétition. Les distances du tour lancé de 200m, du 500m, de la course à points et de la course à élimination étaient au programme.


Sandrine Tas domine chez les femmes
Les quatre distances au programme féminin ont été remportées par une patineuse de Powerslide, dont trois par la Belge Sandrine Tas qui a facilement remporté le classement général. La seule distance sur laquelle elle n'a pas terminé au premier rang est le 500m terminant deuxième derrière sa coéquipière Italienne Giorgia Bormida. Au classement général, l’Argentaine Rocio Berbel a pris le deuxième rang, l’Allemande Mareike Thum le troisième et Bormida le quatrième.

Bart Swings remporte la compétition masculine

Bart Swings a remporté le classement cumulatif de cette troisième manche de Coupe d’Europe. Aidé par ses coéquipiers Felix Rijhnen et Thimothy Loubineaud, Swings est parvenu à remporter le classement cumulatif en gagnant la course à points et en terminant au deuxième rang de la course à élimination. Il a aussi obtenu de bons résultats lors des sprints. Le Français Elton de Souza a conclu la compétition au deuxième rang du classement terminant en troisième position à deux reprises lors de la journée de samedi. Le Portugais Diogo Marreiros, qui avait remporté la Coupe d’Europe de Lagos la semaine dernière, a remporté la course à élimination et terminé deuxième lors de la course à points, mais a eu des résultats un peu plus faibles que Swings et de Souza lors des sprints. Il a complété le podium cumulatif terminant troisième.

Guzman et Albrecht remportent les sprints
Le Vénézuelien Johan Guzman et l’Allemand Simon Albrecht se sont démarqués lors des sprints. Guzman a été le seul à parcourir le tour lancé de 200m sous la barre des quatorze secondes lors de la finale et a remporté cette épreuve juste devant Albrecht. Le lendemain, c’est Albrecht qui a eu le dessus lors du 500m en devançant de peu Guzman.

Stoddard, Suttels et Tinson meilleurs juniors
L’Américaine Corinne Stoddard, qui a pris part aux mondiaux juniors en courte piste cette année a remporté chacune des distances chez les juniors femmes. Du côté masculin, le Belge Jason Suttels a été solide lors des longues distances alors que l’Américain Sabien Tinson a dominé les sprints.

Le prochain événement majeur de roller est le Trophée des 3 pistes qui se tiendra en France le weekend prochain.

Tas & Swings on top in Geisingen

Belgian Sandrine Tas and Bart Swings both representing Powerslide won the overall ranking of the 2019 Arena Geisingen International held in Germany last weekend.

This season’s third European cup was the always popular Arena Geisingen International. This classical event is held in one of the best, if not the best, speed skating track in the world. Stars of the sport such as Elton de Souza, Bart Swings, Daniel Niero, Diogo Marreiros, Sandrine Tas, Mareike Thum and many others competed in the 200m Dobbin sprint, 500m, a points race an an elimination race.


Sandrine Tas dominates
The four distances of the ladies’ competition were won by a skater representing Powerslide, Belgian Sandrine Tas won three of them and easily won the overall ranking. The only distance she didn’t win was the 500m as she finished second just behind her Italian teammate Giorgia Bormida. In the overall ranking, Argentina’s Rocio Berbel finished second, Germany’s Mareike Thum third and Giorgia Bormida fourth.

Bart Swings wins the men’s competition

Bart Swings from Powerslide won the overall ranking of this third leg of the European cup. Helped by his teammates Felix Rijhnen and Thimothy Loubineaud, Bart Swings managed to win the points race and to finish second in the elimination race. He also got decent results in the sprint distances. France’s Elton de Souza finished second overall with two third places on Saturday. Portuguese Diogo Marreiros who won last week’s European cup, was the strongest long distances skater of the weekend as he won the elimination race and finished second in the points race. He had weaker results in the sprint events than Swings and de Souza and finished third overall.

Guzman and Albrecht won the sprint events
Johan Guzman from Venezuela and Simon Albrecht from Germany were strong in the sprint distances. Guzman was the only skater to race his 200m Dobbin sprint below fourteen seconds in the final and won the event while Albrecht finished second. The next day, Albrecht won the 500m just ahead of Guzman.

Stoddard, Suttels and Tinson top junior skaters
Corinne Stoddard from the United States, who’s also a short track speed skater, won every distances of the junior ladies competition. In the men’s races, Belgian Jason Suttels was too strong in the long distances while the American Sabien Tinson dominated the sprints.

The next major speed skating event is the Trophée des 3 pistes that will take part next week in France.

Flanders Grand Prix: Last European cup event of the season

Some of the best skaters in Europe will compete in the last Europa Cup of the season this weekend in Ostende, Belgium.

With only one week to go until the 2018 European Championships that will be held in Ostende, the skaters will have the chance to test the track this weekend while fighting for the last points of the Europa cup classification.

The 2017 champions are back

2017 Flanders Grand Prix's winners Peter Michael and Sandrine Tas will be back this weekend to defend their titles from last year. They enter the weekend as strong favorites for the overall victory but we might have some surprises!

Interesting sprint competitions to come

We could see some pretty serious battles in the men’s sprint races between skaters like Simon Albrecht, Mathias Vosté, Ronald Mulder, Kay and Rick Schipper and other good sprinters. The two shorter distances of the weekend are the 300m time trial and the 1000m.

World Championships revelations will be in action

Young skaters like Tomas Bohumsky (youth), Jordy van Workum and Jason Suttels (juniors) who collected awesome results at this year's World championships will skate this weekend as a preparation for the European Championships. You should keep an eye on them, especially the Belgian Suttels who will be skating at home.

Grand Prix des Flandres: Dernière Coupe d’Europe de la saison

Certains des meilleurs patineurs d’Europe compétionneront cette fin de semaine à Ostende en Belgique dans le cadre de la dernière Coupe d’Europe de la saison.

Une semaine avant les Championnats d’Europe qui se tiendront également à Ostende, les patineurs auront la chance de tester la piste ce weekend tout en bataillant pour les derniers points du classement cumulatif de la Coupe d’Europe.

Les Champions de 2017 sont de retour

Les gagnants de l’édition 2017 du grand Prix des Flandres Peter Michael et Sandrine Tas seront de retour cette année pour défendre leurs titres. Ils entrent dans la compétition comme grands favoris mais nous pourrions avoir des surprises!

Compétitions sprint intéressante à prévoir

Nous pourrions voir de très belles batailles lors des courtes distances avec des patineurs comme Simon Albrecht, Mathias Vosté, Ronald Mulder, Kay et Rick Schipper et d’autres bons sprinteurs. Les distances de type sprint prévues pour la compétition sont le 300m contre-la-montre et le 1000m.

Les révélations des Mondiaux 2018 seront en action

Les jeunes patineurs Tomas Bohumsky (Junior B), Jordy van Workum et Jason Suttels (Junior A) qui ont tous trois obtenu d’excellents résultats aux Championnats du monde 2018 seront en action ce weekend et profiteront de cette compétition pour faire les derniers ajustements avant les Championnats d’Europe qui se tiendront la semaine suivante.

Geisingen international: first big test of the season

The 2018 edition of the Arena Geisingen International, one of the first big test of the season, will be held this weekend in Geisingen, Germany.

An impressive list of skaters registered again this year and this should give us have an idea on who could perform well at the World championships and European championships later this season.


The big names

In the men’s competition we will have the chance to see a lot of senior world champions such as Bart Swings, Simon Albrecht, Johan Guzman, Luca Silva, Peter Michael, Patxi Peula and Felix Rijhnen. Some young skaters like Valentin Thiebault and Giovanni Trebouta who performed well at the Trophée des 3 pistes and the Lagos European cup could also show some great things. Italian star Daniel Niero will race in his first competition of the season and you should definitely keep an eye on him. It will be a tight competition between teams like Powerslide, Bont and Arma in the longer distances. It will also be interesting to see Peter Michael and Livio Wenger perform under their new colours of Arma Arena Geisingen.

In the women's competition, team Powerslide will have a solid squad with Sandrine Tas, Laethisia Schimek, Chloé Geoffroy and Giorgia Bromida. Aura Quintana, Mareike Thum and Josie Hoffman are some skaters who could challenge them. The overall classification will be tight but Sandrine Tas will be hard to beat as she dominated the Lagos European cup two weeks ago and will have a good team to help her this weekend.

Geisingen international: premier grand test de la saison

L’Arena Geisingen International, l’un des premiers grands tests de la saison, se tiendra ce weekend à Geisingen en Allemagne.

Encore une fois cette année, une impressionnante liste de patineurs prendra part à cette légendaire compétition. Un weekend qui nous donnera une bonne idée des forces en présence en vue des Championnats du monde et d’Europe qui se dérouleront plus tard dans la saison.


Les têtes d’affiche

Du côté des hommes, nous retrouverons une belle liste de champions du monde incluant notamment Bart Swings, Simon Albrecht, Johan Guzman, Luca Silva, Peter Michael, Patxi Peula et Felix Rijhnen. Certains jeunes comme Valentin Thiebault et Giovanni Trebouta qui ont offert de bonnes performances aux Trophée des 3 pistes et à la Coupe d’Europe de Lagos pourront également montrer de belles choses à Geisingen. Ce sera l’entrée en scène de l’Italien Daniel Niero de Bont qui devrait être en mesure de récolter d’excellents résultats encore cette saison. Il y aura assurément une belle confrontation des équipes Powerslide, Bont et Arma lors des longues distances. Il sera d'ailleurs intéressant de voir Peter Michael et Livio Wenger en action sous leurs nouvelles couleurs de l’équipe Arma Arena Geisingen.

Chez les femmes, l’équipe Powerslide/Matter sera bien représentée avec Sandrine Tas, Laethisia Schimek, Chloé Geoffroy et Giorgia Bromida. Elles auront comme principales concurrentes Aura Quintana, Mareike Thum et Josie Hoffman mais plusieurs autres solides patineuses y seront. Ce sera une chaude lutte pour le classement général bien qu’il sera difficile de battre Sandrine Tas qui a remporté la Coupe d’Europe de Lagos il y a deux semaines et qui sera appuyée d’une bonne équipe ce weekend.

No more 300m time trial?

The FIRS confirmed that the 300m TT will not be raced anymore at world championships following the 2017 Roller games. The inline community did not really appreciate the decision.

Over the last few years, the federation has tried to make some changes in the distances to make the sport more spectacular. The main reason for these changes in the sport is to promote its entry to the Olympic games. A lot of persons think that the 300m is not the distance to cut.

“The 300m TT is maybe our most pure event, no controversial tactics, no 50/50 judges calls, no lucky lane draw. Just the fastest man or woman wins the race!” posted the german company Powerslide on their different social media platforms. Some skaters like Ioseba Fernandez and Simon Albrecht, two of the best in the distance, also posted their opinions on Instagram. Fans are reacting to these posts and we haven’t seen many positive comments so far but we want to continue the discussion. Dialogue is important.
