Here’s what caught our team’s attention during the road races of the Championships.

Tas and Lollobrigida add to their successes
Belgium’s Sandrine Tas and Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida were on another level in Oostende the past week. After collecting a couple of medals on the track both Tas and Lollobrigida continued their dream championships with respectively 4 and 3 medals on the road. They weren't as strong in the marathon but with the number of events they participated in this week, it’s understandable.

Ioseba Fernandez fastest road sprinter in Europe
Spain's Ioseba Fernandez proved once again that he is the best road sprinter. He won both shorter distances presented during this competition which were the 200m and the one lap sprint.

Gonzalez and Galar still on top of the youth category
After winning four medals each on the track, Luisa Maria Gonzalez and Ivan Galar were still strong on the road winning the 200m on the first day of road racing. The next day, Gonzalez finished second in the one lap sprint. Galar was penalized on this distance. With their impressive results during the Championships, you should definitely keep an eye on them in the next few seasons.

Chloé Geoffroy surprise in the marathon
After a long 27km breakaway by Italian skaters Laura Lorenzato and Luisa Woolaway, Chloé Geoffroy came back at the last moment to cross the finish line in first position. Laura Lorenzato and Maite Ancin Gambarte finished second and third.

Swings and Suttels made Belgian fans happy
Bart Swings won the only distance he raced at the European Championships! He finished 4 seconds before Spanish skater Patxi Peula and 8 seconds before the Dutch skater Crispijn Ariens in the Marathon. Young Belgian sensation Jason Suttels won the junior marathon almost 50 seconds ahead of Rafael Heredia and Michael Gatti who completed the podium.
