Golikova, Krol and Roest gold medalists In Nur-Sultan

Angelina Golikova, Thomas Krol and Patrick Roest each won a distance during the second day of racing in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

On the second day of racing in at World Cup #3, the ladies’ 500m as well as the men’s 1000m and 10000m were raced. 


Russian ladies’ still on top on 500m
Russian ladies’ once again ended at the top on 500m. Angelina Golikova won it today with a time of 37.785. She was one hundredth of a second faster than her teammate Daria Kachanova who took the silver medal. Japanese Nao Kodaira took bronze while the current World Cup leader on the distance Olga Fatkulina finished fourth.

Dutch podium on 1000m
Dutch skaters Thomas Krol, Kjeld Nuis and Kai Verbij respectively finished first, second and third in the men’s 1000m in Nur-Sultan. Krol established a new track record of 1:08.420. 

Roest Triumph on his 24th birthday
On the day of his 24th birthday, Dutch star Patrick Roest offered himself a World Cup win on the longest distance raced in speed skating. He skated the 10000m with a time of 12:59.442. He looked like he was being catched by Jorrit Bergsma at some point in the race, but he accelerated in the last two laps to increase his lead and establish the fastest time. Russian Danila Semerikov finished second while Canadian Graeme Fish finished third.
