Most successful Canadian speed skaters at mid-season [ep3]

Team Canada had some great moments during the first half of the 2019-2020 speed skating season.

Here’s the third and last article of our series about the Canadian skaters who were successful in the first half of the 2019-2020 season.


Laurent Dubreuil
Laurent Dubreuil showed great things on the World Cup circuit so far this season. He won a bronze medal on 500m at the second World Cup of the season and finished in two other top tens on the distance. He’s also well ranked on the 1000m overall classification. After three races, he’s at the fourth spot of the ranking and his best performance was a fourth place in Nagano. He also took part in Canada’s success in the team sprint.

Jordan Pierre-Gilles
Young Canadian skater Jordan Pierre-Gilles raced his first World Cups during the Asian short track World Cups in Nagoya and Shanghai. He participated in Canada’s bronze medal in the mixed relay in Shanghai and reached the top bracket in every individual distances he raced. His best ranking was a 7th position on 500m in Nagoya.

Ladies’ team pursuit
The ladies’ team pursuit squad was successful this season winning the World Cup overall classification. Ivanie Blondin, Isabelle Weidemann and Valérie Maltais formed the Canadian trio which won a bronze medal, a silver medal and a gold medal.

Ladie’s 3000m relay
The young Canadian ladies’ short track team performed well on the 3000m relay during the first four World Cups of the season. They're currently sitting at the top of the overall ranking on the distance as they collected a medal at every World Cup so far this season. They claimed two bronze medals, a silver medal and a gold medal.
