Le Marathon Roller du Canada a maintenant sa marraine d'honneur

En plus de s’allier à la Fondation de l'Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal et de faire équipe avec un autre marathon majeur se tenant aux États-Unis, le Marathon Roller du Canada a maintenant sa marraine d'honneur.

C’est avec beaucoup de fierté que Pierre Laurent, responsable du Marathon Roller du Canada, nous annonçait que la patineuse canadienne Valérie Maltais avait accepté d’être la marraine de cette première édition de l’événement. Bien connue pour sa carrière en courte piste, l’olympienne de 28 ans est passée au patinage de vitesse longue piste la saison dernière obtenant de bons résultats à sa première saison. Elle vise maintenant de participer aux Jeux olympiques de 2022 dans sa nouvelle discipline. Maltais a également représenté le Canada en patinage de vitesse à roues alignées au Jeux Panaméricains en 2015 ce qui fait d’elle une alliée de choix pour la présentation de ce nouvel événement de roller qui aura lieu en septembre. 

Les organisateurs ont également décidé de faire équipe avec le marathon le plus important aux États-Unis soit le Northshore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest qui en sera à sa 24e édition cette année et qui se tient à Duluth au Minnesota. Les deux organisations espèrent développer un partenariat qui incitera les athlètes à participer aux deux événements. De grand noms du roller comme Chad Hedrick, Ken Kuwada et la jeune star américaine Corinne Stoddard ont remporté l’épreuve dans le passé. 

De plus, la Marathon Roller du Canada a fait le choix de s’allier à la Fondation de l’Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal. Une association naturelle considérant que l’activité physique et les saines habitudes de vie sont intimement liés à la santé cardiovasculaire.

Canada Roller Marathon found its honorary spokesperson

After announcing that they would partnered with the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation and also that they were teaming up with the largest inline speed skating marathon in the USA, the Canada Roller Marathon found its honorary spokesperson.

It’s with a lot of pride that Pierre Laurent, race director of the Canada Roller Marathon, announced that Canadian skater Valérie Maltais has accepted to be the honorary spokesperson of the first edition of the event. Well known for her great career in short track speed  skating, the 28-year-old olympian made the switch to long track speed skating last season and offered promising results. Her goal now is to qualify for the 2022 Olympic games. Maltais also represented Canada in inline speed skating at the 2015 Pan American Games presented in Toronto which make her the perfect fit to be the face of this first edition of the Canada Roller Marathon this September. 

The organizers also reached out to Mike Ward, race director of the Northshore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest in Duluth (Minnesota), to link the two events and develop a partnership that would encourage athletes to take part in both races. Some big names of the sport such as Chad Hedrick, Ken Kuwada and young American star Corinne Stoddard have won the Northshore Inline Marathon in the past. 

Finaly, the Canada Roller Marathon has decided to team up with the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation. A natural partnership considering that physical activity and a healthy lifestyle are key in maintaining cardiovascular health.

A2A 2018: Une autre victoire en sol américain pour Ken Kuwada

L’Argentin Ken Kuwada a remporté l’édition 2018 du Athens to Atlanta Road Skate la fin de semaine dernière aux États-Unis.

Après deux belles victoires au Northshore marathon et au 100km de New York durant les dernières semaines, Ken Kuwada de MPC s’est emparé d’une autre victoire au États-Unis avec ce titre de champion du légendaire 140km (87 miles) du Athens to Atlanta. Une échappée à quatre patineurs composée de Kuwada, Francisco Ramirez, Jérôme Comtois-Urbain et Eddy Matzger s’est rendue à l’arrivée en 4h36 minutes. Kuwada a remporté le sprint devant Ramirez et le Québecois Comtois-Urbain.

La première femme à compléter le 140km a été l’Américaine Vanessa Ayala avec un temps de 4:57:51. Jessica Wright a pris le second rang avec un temps de 5:27:39 alors que Sandra Spirovska a complété le podium en 5:43:30.

Un total de 40 patineurs de 17 à 59 ans ont complété la dure épreuve de 140 km.

A2A 2018: Another victory in the USA for Ken Kuwada

Argentina’s Ken Kuwada won the 2018 edition of the Athens to Atlanta Road Skate last weekend in the United States.

After two great victories on American soil with his Nortshore Marathon and New York 100k wins, MPC skater Ken Kuwada took another victory with his title in the legendary Athens to Atlanta 87 miles (140 km). A four men breakaway composed of Kuwada, Francisco Ramirez, Jérôme Comtois-Urbain and Eddy Matzger managed to get to the line in 4h36 minutes. Kuwada edged everybody in the sprint while Ramirez and Canadian Comtois-Urbain finished second and third.

The first women to finish the 87 miles race was Vanessa Ayala from the United States who crossed the line with a time of 4:57:51. Jessica Wright finished second with a time of 5:27:39 while Sandra Spirovska took the third position in 5:43:30.

A total of 40 skaters from 17 to 59 years of age completed this year's 87 miles race!

Round up: New York 100k & Lyon marathon

Two inline speed skating events were raced last weekend: the New York 100k and the Lyon marathon.

The New York 100k was raced on Saturday the 22nd and the Lyon French inline cup marathon occured on Sunday the 23rd.

New York 100k - 22/09/18

Argentina’s Ken Kuwada who won the Northshore marathon last weekend added another win to his United States' adventure with a big win in the New York 100k in a time of 3:12.42. French World Champion Elton de Souza finished second while young american skater Aidan Brown completed the podium. Only Karin Gabriel finished the ladies' 100k race. She completed the distance with a time of 3:34.49.

Lyon French inline cup - 23/09/18

A lot of solid skaters took part in this year’s Lyon marathon. French marathon specialist representing Rollerblade Guillaume de Mallevoue won the race in front of his teammate Ewen Fernandez. Former marathon World Champion Nolan Beddiaf finished third arriving 3 minutes after Mallevoue and Fernandez. In the ladies’ race, Juliette Pouydebat won the marathon in front of Marine Lefeuvre and Joséphine Alliaud.

En bref: New York 100km & Lyon marathon

Deux événements majeurs de roller se sont déroulés durant le weekend: le 100km de New York et la Coupe de France marathon de Lyon.

Le 100km de New York a été coursé samedi le 22 septembre alors que le Marathon de Lyon s’est déroulé dimanche le 23.

100km de New York - 22/09/18

L’Argentin Ken Kuwada, qui a remporté le Marathon de Northshore la semaine dernière, a ajouté une autre victoire à son périple aux États-Unis en remportant le 100km de New York en 3:12.42. Le Français et champion du monde Elton de Souza a terminé tout juste derrière Kuwada alors que le jeune patineur américain Aidan Brown a complété le podium. Karin Gabriel a été la seule femme à compléter les 100 km. Elle a parcouru la distance en 3:34.49.

Coupe de France marathon de Lyon - 23/09/18

Plusieurs solides patineurs ont participé au Marathon de Lyon 2018. Le représentant de Rollerblade et spécialiste des marathons Guillaume de Mallevoue a remporté la course devant son compatriote Ewen Fernandez. L’ancien champion du monde sur la distance Nolan Beddiaf a pris le 3e rang, arrivant trois minutes après Mallevoue et Fernandez. Dans la course des femmes, Juliette Pouydebat s’est imposée devant Marine Lefeuvre et Joséphine Alliaud.

L'Argentin Ken Kuwada fracasse un record vieux de 20 ans

L'Argentin Ken Kuwada a battu le record vieux de 20 ans du Northshore marathon ce week-end aux États-Unis.

Le patineur représentant MPC, Ken Kuwada, a remporté le Northshore Marathon 2018 avec un temps rapide de 56:56.12 établissant par le fait même le temps le plus rapide jamais coursé lors de cet événement. L'ancienne marque était détenue depuis 1998 par la légende du patinage Chad Hedrick. Le parcours 2018 était cependant un peu différent de celui de 1998 en raison de zones de construction, il est donc difficile de comparer les deux performances. Le patineur de MPC Sebastian Guzman Bitar et le patineur de Bont Justin Stelly ont complété le podium masculin. La patineuse junior Corinne Stoddard des États-Unis a remporté la course féminine devant Franchesca Pasquarella et Kelsey Helman.

Argentina's Ken Kuwada breaks a 20 years old record

Argentina's Ken Kuwada broke a 20 years old record at the 2018 Northshore marathon this weekend.

MPC wheels' skater Ken Kuwada won the 2018 Northshore marathon with a fast time of 56:56.12. It's the fastest time ever raced at the Northshore marathon. The previous best mark was established by inline speed skating's legend Chad Hedrick in 1998. The 2018 course was slightly different than in 1998 because of construction, which makes it difficult to compare it with Hedrick's performance. MPC's Sebastian Guzman Bitar and Bont's Justin Stelly completed the men's podium finishing 50 seconds after Kuwada. Junior skater from the United States Corinne Stoddard won the ladies' race in front of Franchesca Pasquarella and Kelsey Helman.

En route vers les Championnats du monde: Équipe Argentine

Le comité national de patinage argentin a confirmé son équipe qui se rendra aux Championnats du monde.

Bien que ce ne soit pas la délégation la plus nombreuse, l’équipe de l’Argentine sera solide cette saison. Rappelons-nous leurs succès aux Juegos Suramericanos 2018 où Rocio Berbel avait notamment surpris tout le monde en s’emparant du titre sur 1000m. Le duo d’enfer composé de Santiago Roumec et Ken Kuwada sera encore à surveiller cette année suite à leurs impressionnants résultats lors des Coupes d’Europe et des Jeux sud-américains. Juan Cruz Araldi, champion du monde du marathon en 2016 et également médaillé au Juegos Suramericanos, fait aussi partie de l’équipe.

Road to World Championships: Team Argentina

The inline speed skating national comitee of Argentina confirmed its team that will compete in Heerde for the World Championships.

It might not be the biggest team but it’s an experimented and talented squad that will represent Argentina in Heerde. Argentina’s skaters were successful at the Juegos Suramericanos 2018 where Rocio Berbel surprised a lot of person with her victory on 1000m. The power duo composed of Santiago Roumec and Ken Kuwada is part of the team and you should keep an eye on them as they collected great results on the European cup circuit and at the Juegos Suramericanos! Marathon world champion in 2016 and Juegos Suramericanos medalist Juan Cruz Araldi is also part of this solid men team.
