Dubreuil captures a second Canadian title, Blondin takes her first

On day three of the Canadian single distance championships in Calgary, new Canadian champions in the 1000m were crowned.

The Olympic Oval in Calgary served as the perfect backdrop for today’s 1000m races, with many skaters starting the season off on the right foot by posting speedy times. It was a Quebec podium sweep on the men’s side, while Ivanie Blondin came away with the women’s title.


Dubreuil & Blondin claim 1000m titles
Three skaters from Quebec found themselves on the men’s 1000m podium, with Laurent Dubreuil leading the pack for a second day with his time of 1:08.48. Antoine Gelinas-Beaulieu posted the second fastest time of the day with his time of 1:08.69. David La Rue finished in the bronze medal position with his time of 1:09.18. The young skater from Quebec is looking to build upon his successes from the previous year. Rounding out the top-5 were Christopher Fiola with a time of 1:09.66 and Jacob Graham with a time of 1:10.19.

Ivanie Blondin finished atop the podium on the women’s side with her time of 1:15.98, just ahead of Kaylin Irvine who finished with a time of 1:16.49. Beatrice Lamarche, the young skater from Quebec, finished in the bronze medal position with her time of 1:16.52. Rounding out the top-5 were Keri Morrison (1:16.69) and Marsha Hudey (1:16.78).
Neo-Senior skaters in action
Several Neo-Senior skaters were also in action today and attempting to earn the right to represent Canada at an upcoming neo-senior event in Poland. On the women’s side it was Carolane Gingras who came out on top with her time of 1:20.09. Veronique Dery and Sara Spence rounded out the top three with their times of 1:20.58 and 1:21.00, respectively. On the men’s side it was Cooper Emin from Nova Scotia who came out on top with his time of 1:11.52. Nicolas Hiller was second with his time of 1:12.99, and Guillaume Labbé was third with his time of 1:13.76.
