New champions were crowned in the men’s/women’s 1500m and mass start as the Canadian Single Distance championships wrapped up at the Olympic Oval in Calgary this afternoon.

Ivanie Blondin captured her second Canadian title of the 2018 Canadian single distance championships in the 1500m. David La Rue, the young skater from Quebec, found himself atop the podium for the first time in the 1500m.

Ivanie Blondin captured her second Canadian title of the 2018 Canadian single distance championships in the 1500m. David La Rue, the young skater from Quebec, found himself atop the podium for the first time in the 1500m.

Blondin captured her second Canadian title in the 1500m with her time of 1:56.58 in Calgary this afternoon. Keri Morrison finished in the silver medal position with her time of 1:57.44, just ahead of Isabelle Weidemann who finished with a time of 1:57.62. Weidemann has now raked in three medals over the course of the competition. Rounding out the top-5 were Kali Christ (1:59.08) and Beatrice Lamarche (1:59.13).
David La Rue captured his second medal of the Canadian Single Distance Championships with his gold medal performance in the 1500m. La Rue finished with a time of 1:45.20 just ahead of Antoine Gelinas-Beaulieu who finished with a time of 1:45.38. Ted-Jan Bloemen finished in the bronze medal position with his time of 1:46.20. Rounding out the top-5 were Tyson Langelaar with a time of 1:46.44 and Hayden Mayeur with a time of 1:47.39.
Weidemann, Jean crowned Mass Start champions
Olivier Jean was crowned mass start champion on the men’s side with 66 points and his time of 8:07.56. Hayden Mayeur from Ontario finished in second with 41 points and a time of 8:08.24. Jordan Belchos rounded out the top-3 with 29 points and a time of 8:08.33. On the women’s side, it was Isabelle Weidemann who came out on top, bringing her total medal haul to 4. Isabelle Weidemann lapped the field and finished with a time of 8:40.03 and 69 points. Ivanie Blondin and Béatrice Lamarche rounded out the podium on the women’s side.
