Speed skaters from the Heerenveen world cup fought for the last time of the weekend today in the three last distances of the program.

The last day of racing started with the 1000m where Nao Kodaira from Japan got her third victory of the weekend. Kodaira’s teammate Miho Takagi finished second and Dutch star Jorien Ter Mors third. The Russian Pavel Kulizhnikov took gold in the men’s category in front of Kai Verbij from the Netherlands and Havard Holmefjord Lorentzen from Norway. Kulizhnikov skated the new track record with a fast time of 1:07.97.
The 3000m was won by Antoinette de Jong from the Netherlands. The Dutch eclipsed her competitors with a time of 4:03.53. Natalia Voronina from Russia finished second and Ivanie Blondin from Canada collected another medal with her third position. The men’s 5000m was won in the last pair as Sven Kramer and Ted-Jan Bloemen were the last pair on the ice. Kramer finally took the victory in front of Bloemen. Sverre Lunde Pedersen finished in third place.
The ladies team sprint was won by Russia. Norway and Korea completed the top 3. The Canadian team composed of Alexandre St-Jean, Vincent de Haître and Laurent Dubreuil was the fastest in the men’s race. Norway and Russia were second and third.
The majority of these skaters will be back in action next weekend in Stavanger, Norway for the second World cup event of the season.
