With the goal of gaining experience, Julien Armand, Maxime St-Jules and Marco Frusteri participated in all the distances of these championships. With big competitors such as Alex Cujavante, Bart Swings, Daniel Niero, Pedro Causil, Gwendal le Pivert and many others present in the Netherlands, the competition was quite a challenge for the three youg men from Canada.
It was not an easy competition for the Canadians who didn’t manage to go through a round. However, the skaters were still able to show their colours and move in the pack. Maxime St-Jules's attack in the road points race qualification heat was definitely a high point of his presence at these championships. Even if this acceleration didn’t allow him to qualify for the final, seeing the colours of a Canadian skinsuit in front of a strong World Championships pack is great for the sport in Canada. The best results from the team were Maxime St-Jules’s 29th position on the 100m and Julien Armand’s 31st place on 1000m.
We don't think it was the last time we were seeing red and black skin suits with a maple leaf at the inline speed skating World Championships. This participation at Worlds and the speed skating clinic with Elton de Souza in Montréal are great things for the development of inline speed skating in Canada and allow us to dream big for the future.
