The penultimate day of long track competition at the Beijing Olympics featured the best long track speed skaters on 1000m.

Thomas Krol of the Netherlands won gold with a time of 1:07.920. What caught the eye of many was the silver medal won by Canadian Laurent Dubreuil. After a slight disappointment on 500m with a fourth place, the world champion recovered in the 1000m with a time of 1:08.320 good for second place. Norway's Havard Lorentzen completed the podium in 1:08.480. Dutch Kai Verbij, who was one of the favourites, suffered a cramp during his race and finished 30th.

The long track events will conclude tomorrow with the mass start.
