Canada's Laurent Dubreuil won a redemption medal on 1000m in Beijing.

The penultimate day of long track competition at the Beijing Olympics featured the best long track speed skaters on 1000m.
Thomas Krol of the Netherlands won gold with a time of 1:07.920. What caught the eye of many was the silver medal won by Canadian Laurent Dubreuil. After a slight disappointment on 500m with a fourth place, the world champion recovered in the 1000m with a time of 1:08.320 good for second place. Norway's Havard Lorentzen completed the podium in 1:08.480. Dutch Kai Verbij, who was one of the favourites, suffered a cramp during his race and finished 30th.
The long track events will conclude tomorrow with the mass start.
