The women's 5,000m was on the agenda today in Beijing. Canadian Isabelle Weidemann, Dutch Irene Schouten, Czech Martina Sablikova and Italian Francesca Lollobrigida were among the big names to watch.

In the end, Irene Schouten won gold. Her time of 6:43.510 allowed her to lower the Olympic record held by Claudia Pechstein since 2002. This medal is Schouten's third Olympic medal in career and her second in Beijing. She's also one of the favorites to win the mass start on the last day of the Olympics.

Canada's Isabelle Weidemann won her second medal of the 2022 Olympics with a time of 6:48.180, while the experienced Martina Sablikova won her seventh career Olympic medal with the bronze medal. Italian Francesca Lollobrigida who got silver on 3000m finished fourth today on 5000m.

The men's 10,000m is on the program tomorrow.
